The International Farm Comparison Network (IFCN) met for its annual conference in Asiago, bringing together 45 researchers from Armenia to Uruguay.

World milk output reached 608 million tonnes in 2013 and it kept growing over the first half of 2014 to exceed this amount by 10 million tonnes in June, delegates heard.

This would result in lower prices.

Under the heading, ‘Development of a sustainable dairy sector’, particular emphasis was put on ‘disadvantaged areas’ for dairy farming.

A  conference spokesperson said this is where ‘very interesting opportunities’ will arise, particularly in the European Union after quota abolition.
