The package will strengthen the dairy sector through focussing on research, productivity and competitiveness.

The Colombian agriculture ministry said that New Zealand influence can assist with coordinating public and private research efforts and professionalise Colombia’s sector.

Deputy Minister Hernan Roman highlighted the potential assistance New Zealand could offer in targeting markets in the Asian pacific.

Keith Woodford, director of the expert mission of New Zealand said the dairying had a ‘good future’ as the world is looking to ‘stock up on protein’.

He added that Colombia’s climate is ideal for milk production.

The decision came after a two week study trip of the main milk basins in the country – Cundinamarca, Boyaca and Narino.
