FMD Reported in Mongolia; Livestock Receive Vaccination

MONGOLIA - The Mongolian veterinary authorities have reported a further outbreak of foot and mouth disease (FMD) at a farm in Dornogovi, affecting cattle and sheep.

The World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) received follow-up report no. 3 on Friday, 25 April. According to the report, the outbreak was previously notified as due to serotype A but confirmed afterwards by Reference Laboratory as serotype O.

A total of 73 cattle were reportedly found affected by the FMD outbreak. All 73 animals were destroyed.

The OIE, in conjunction with the country's competent authorities, vaccinated livestock in various administrative divisions across the country:

The source of the outbreaks remains inconclusive.
