Russian Ban Cuts Third Off Paraguayan Beef Revenues
RUSSIA – The decision by state surveillance authority Rosselkhoznador to suspend buying beef from eight Paraguayan meat plants has cost Paraguay’s beef industry over US$60 million.

This is an overall volume reduction of 18 per cent, according to monthly National Quality and Animal Health data reported by ABC news.
The shipping reduction has been noted from 1 January to 28 February.
This follows Russia’s ruling to ban eight plants from November to December last year which means Russia is no longer Paraguay's premier beef buyer.
Russia is currently number two in Paraguay beef chart, ahead of Brazil but behind Chile.
Three plants have been recently rehabilitated with the remaining five to recommence Russian shipping in April.
Beef exports revenues are down on January and February this year because of the drop in Russian buying, the country’s biggest beef buyer last year.
Meanwhile, Paraguay has noted a rise in imported meat.
Last year, the government spent US$10 million on imported meat. This is above last year’s reduction in crime.
