Agricultural Ministry figures are forecasting a 9.6 per cent lift in the value of crop and livestock production (VCLP) on 2012, largely thanks to a 26 per cent surge in meat production.

Eggs and pork also increased 13.2 per cent and 12.3 per cent respectively.

The worst performer was the cattle sector.

"With the exception of beef prices, the price improvement in 2013 with other livestock products has been a determining factor in the results,” said Jose Garcia Gasques, Planning Minister at the Ministry of Agriculture Livestock and Supply.

He added: "Importantly, the value for next year is based on preliminary information, representing only a starting point for tracking information by 2014.”
