Good Traceability Record Attracts EU Attention

14 November 2013

CHILE – Agricultural ministers are hoping to capitalise on improvements in meat traceability by opening up trade with the European Union.

EU delegates will visit the Lakes region of Chile in the last week of November to assess compliance of the livestock meat supply chain.

If successful, the region will gain more companies granted access to the EU market, said Agriculture and Livestock Service Aritzia Hannibal this week.

"The crucial decisions taken to improve conditions in the region, was to reinforce traceability, which will provide full support for the livestock division of the region,” said Mr Hannibal.

Manager of the Agricultural Employers Association of the Province of Llanquihue said: "State services have done a good job with respect to plants qualified to export to the EU.”
