Only two months after supermarket release, the Lake District Dairy Co Quark has managed to beat off entrants from 23 countries including the US, Japan, Russia, Denmark and France.

This has exceeded company expectations, said First Milk Marketing Director, David Young.

“It is early days for our Lake District Dairy Co. Quark," said Mr Young. “Yet with the prestige of this global award and its recognition of our innovation by our dairy peers, combined with the positive response from retailers and consumers, the range has been riding a fantastic wave these last few months. While we knew there was a real gap in the market and we had a great product, it’s achievements in such a short space of time, have gone beyond even our expectations.”

Unlike traditional European Quark, a traditional tea time favourite, the product is more ‘spoonable’ and of a soft texture. First Milk says that this has made the product very versatile and suitable for cooking, baking and for use as a healthy alternative to some traditional dairy ingredients.

We spent a great deal of time perfecting this product for the British consumer, said Mr Young. Doing so meant a focus on health qualities such as low fat content, high protein values and little salt or sugar.

First Milk will continue to work with its customers to further the product in flavour range and the targeted markets.
