The Chinese authorities sent follow-up report no. 1 to the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) last week (13 June), confirming the presence of the FMD virus, serotype O, after running enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), gene sequencing and reverse transcription - polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) tests on cattle on the same date at the Lanzhou Veterinary Research Institute, the OIE's reference laboratory.

Out of 105 suscpetible animals, 22 cases were reported. All 105 animals showing signs of susceptibility were destroyed.

The source of the outbreak(s) remains inconclusive.

The OIE, in conjunction with the concerned authorities, have applied several measures such as stamping out, quarantine, movement control inside the country, screening, zoning, disinfection of infected premises/establishment(s) and dipping/spraying to control the spread of the virus in the country.
