Subsidy increases are available for sheep, goat and cattle farmers who operate geographically unique production methods to ensure product quality and originality.

Dairy cow subsidies are to be increased from €7.6 per head to €22.01. But while the headage payment is increasing, the number of animals that qualify for FEAGAS funding is to reduce.

The number of cows elgible for the new subsidy has fallen by almost 100,000, from 319,316 to 219,561.

Beef subsidies are to be fixed at €11.92 per head with 587,353 animals qualifying for the extra funding payment.

Payment increases are retrospective and will be based on numbers for last year.
