This is according to Udo Folgart, Vice President of the German Farmers Association (DBV) who, speaking at the fourth Berlin Dairy Forum said that politicians must listen to farmer’s problems.

The Forum Milk from Germany: produce: regional - global demand was attended by over 400 industry officials and was a platform for the DBV to voice concerns about future milk quota expiration and current market disparities.

However, Mr Folgart urged farmers to respond to adversity and consider recent developments as opportunities.

Describing the quota phase out plans for 2015 as a ‘backward looking decision’ he stated that for milk prices to improve the EU had to allow countries to address import and export balances.

The DBV hopes to use forthcoming discussion to use objective, factual reasoning to highlight to the European Commission that phasing out quotas is not practical.
