Farmgate Milk Prices Up in November

UK - Average farmgate milk prices rose for both Northern Ireland and the UK as a whole through November, according to a monthly report by industry development group DairyCo.

According to the most recent DEFRA figures, the average UK farmgate price stood at 30.02ppl in November. This was a 0.92ppl (3.2 per cent) increase on the October average price. Compared with the previous year, the November price was 0.57ppl (1.9 per cent) higher than the previous year.

The GB average price was 29.86ppl in November, a 0.68ppl (2.3 per cent) increase on the previous month and an increased of 0.31ppl (1.0 per cent) compared with November 2011.

The Northern Ireland (NI) average for November rose to 31.05ppl, an increase of 2.49ppl (8.7 per cent) compared with October. The November price is 2.25ppl (7.8 per cent) higher than the previous year.

Note: In Northern Ireland a larger proportion of milk goes into commodity markets and therefore the NI price tends to reflect the rises and falls in the commodity markets more than GB. For more information on commodity prices click here.

Average Yearly Farmgate Prices

Annual data shows that the UK farmgate price has increased by 2.69ppl (10.9 per cent) to 27.35ppl in 2011. In GB, there was a 2.78ppl (11.3 per cent) increase from the 2010 average, to 27.36ppl in 2011. The average NI price stood at 25.06ppl in 2010. There was a 2.21ppl (8.8 per cent) increase in the average price in 2011, resulting in a price of 27.27ppl.
