Russia Imports Breeding Cattle from North America
RUSSIA - Two farms in Russia have imported more than 1000 head of cattle from Canada and North America to the Chelyabinsk region to boost the genetic breeding potential in the region.

The live exports included 400 head of purebred Hereford beef cattle and 600 head of Holstein heifers.
In all 2,300 cattle were exported in the shipment from St John in Canada to Russia, with 1,000 of them going to two farms in the Chelyabinsk region with the Kalinin company taking the Hereford cattle.
Kalinin has already successfully imported transplant embryos from Canada in an agricultural experiment between 2008 and 2010 and in 2011 the company acquired its first batch of 186 heifers.
The Holstein cattle were destined for a farm, SEC "Podovinnoe", in the October region of Chelyabinsk, which already had Russian Black Pied and Simmental breeds but bought in the Holsteins to increase milk yield.
The purchase of the cattle was help by regional assistance.
