Young Farmers Make Dairy Saving Demands

Industry representatives visited Romualdo Castro Pérez's dairy cattle farm on Thursday. They announced their outrage at the recent losses suffered by producers due to a combination of milk prices being at Euros 315/tonne and input costs rising.
They Young Farmers stated they support the EU 'milk package'. This compendium of national and EU legislation stipulating formalised contracts and offering producer oraganisations to negotiate prices is what the Young Farmers have said will support the industry.
The Young Farmers Union has reiterated that Spanish milk companies are paying prices below the European prices despite the fact that Spain imports a third out of the 9 million tons of milk consumed per year. Also mentioned is the new Common Agricultural Policy is not considering livestock production either so it is likely more income loss if the initial proposals are passed.
On the other hand, the Young Farmers stated that it is not enough and the Young Farmers expressed their opposition to the criteria to award exceptional funds to milk industry (30 million euros), announced by the Minister and which is on its way to become a Real Decreto (this is a law).
