This year, the IDF Award 2012 is honorably granted to George Davey AM, General Manager for Agriculture at the Royal Agricultural Society of New South Wales, Australia.

Mr Davey has contributed significantly to the progress of dairy science, technology, marketing and policy. Throughout his outstanding career, he has played a leading role in the dairy industry at the international level. His extensive experience covers many areas of the dairy industry.

His involvement with the IDF for more than 25 years has been highly valued, especially in the marketing field, where he has served actively as President of the IDF International Milk Promotions (IMP) Group, member of the IDF Programme Coordination Committee, and Chair of the IDF Standing Committee on Marketing (SCM).

George Davey is recognized internationally for his many contributions to food safety and public health, especially through the development of through-chain food safety systems that have delivered substantial benefits to the dairy farming and manufacturing sectors.

In Australia he was Member and Chair of several national food research and standards development organizations and professional associations. In addition to this recognition, he has received many professional awards for his contributions to food science.

George has shared his knowledge by publishing numerous scientific and technical papers and book chapters, and delivering presentations at Australian and international conferences. He also focused his efforts on establishing Australia’s only through–chain Food Authority, one of the first of its kind in the world.

Further successes include George serving as a member of the Beijing Olympics Food Safety Expert Committee in 2008, and being appointed as an Honorary Professor in Food Science and Technology at Changzhou University in China, where he helped to establish the Australia-China Centre for Food Safety.

This year, on Australia Day, George was awarded him Membership with the Order of Australia (AM) in recognition of his service to the primary industry sector, to the development of health and food standards, and to professional associations.
