EBBE - European Board Of Bovine Experts

The group of experts will look take the time to discuss how this summer's volatile weather has had an effect on feed costs and feed quality across the world.

Dr Mary Beth de Ondarza from the US and Dr Sergio Casamiglia from the University of Barcelona will look at what effect high feed costs and lower feed quality may have on transition cows.

Later on, Paola Amodeo, a consultant from Italy, will give an evaluation of feed management in a dairy herd.

The experts will also visit a dairy farm in Cheshire, milking 350 high yielding cows. The herd calf all year round on a typical UK system, utilising a total mixed ration and grazing.

The farm is family run, but management is progressive and forward thinking having recently improved rearing facilities and provided facilities for the separate housing of first lactation cows. A new milking parlour is also being installed.
