OIE: More Schmallenberg Outbreaks Confirmed

FRANCE and GERMANY - Hundreds of new outbreaks of Schmallenberg virus in France and Germany have been reported to the OIE from the 21 January to the 20 April 2012.

The outbreaks affected cattle, sheep and goats in both countries.

France reported 325 outbreaks which range from the 21 January to the 15 March. The outbreaks occured in central to northern France.

In Germany, 88 outbreaks were recoded which range from the 7 March to the 20 April. OIE reports that in total 72 cases were reported in cattle in Germany of the 7272 susceptible. The German cases occured to in the north and east of the country.
