High up Take of Butter Private Storage
EU - Some 11,054 tonnes of butter will benefit from Private Storage Aid (PSA) after requests received on the first two days of the scheme opening (March 1).

This compares with 7,722t that was offered in the first week last year (over four days), and just 1,431t in week one of 2010.
The volumes this year come from France (2750t), Germany (2708t), Netherlands (2413t), Denmark (1540t), Belgium (691t), Ireland (504t) and UK (448t).
The scheme for 2012, which opened on March 1, has aid rates of €14.88 per tonne of storage for fixed storage costs, and €0.26 per tonne per day of contractual storage.
There is no ceiling for PSA butter (but there is a max 30,000 tonnes for butter intervention purchases). The scheme operates 1st March - 15th August, and the aid is paid for a period between 90 and 210 days.
Under PSA rules, Member States are required to inform the Commission every Tuesday (by 8pm via an electronic data system) of the volume of butter that has been taken up under the scheme the previous week. The overall volumes covered by the scheme in the last three years were 152,000t in the exceptional year 2009 (which saw the scheme extended beyond mid-August), 83,000t in 2010 and 106,000t in 2011.
