OIE: Outbreak Of FMD Reported

TAJIKISTAN - An outbreak of Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) has been reported to the OIE by Mr Mulodjon Amirbekov, Head, Main Board of Veterinary Service, Ministry of Agriculture, DUSHANBE, Tajikistan.

There has been one outbreak of FMD reported to the OIE.

The outbreak occured in Shurobod district, KHATLON.

The outbreak effects a defined zone within the country.

So far, the outbreak has resulted in 30 cases in cattle, with no deaths, and five cases in goats, also with no deaths.

The source of the outbreak is due to contact with infected animals through grazing/watering

Control measures currently being applied include:

  • Quarantine
  • Movement control inside the country
  • Vacination in response to the outbreak
  • Treatment of affected animals
