OIE: Bluetongue Reported In Spain

SPAIN - An outbreak of Bluetongue has been reported to the OIE by Dr Lucio Ignacio Carbajo Goni , Subdirector General de Sanidad de la Producción Primaria, Dirección General de Recursos Agrícolas y Ganaderos, Ministerio de Medio Ambiente y Medio Rural y Marino, Madrid, Spain.

There has been one outbreak of bluetongue reported to the OIE.

The outbreak occured at MALPARTIDA DE PLASENCIA, MALPARTIDA DE PLASENCIA, Cáceres, EXTREMADURA

The outbreak effects a defined zone within the country.

So far, the outbreak has resulted in 10 cases with no deaths.

The source of the illness is most likely from infection by midges or other carriers.

Control measures currently being applied include:

  • No vaccination
  • No treatment of affected animals
