Harold began dairy farming at Clarbeston Grange in 1955 with 25 cows. By 1980 he had doubled the farm’s acreage to 300 acres and the herd to 200 cows. In 1980 he took the opportunity to farm a further 1,000 acres at Stackpole.

Harold and his wife Joyce have three sons Graham, Nigel and Chris. In 1997 he took the decision to step aside in the business to let the next Nigel and Chris build upon the platforms created. When Harold stepped aside the enterprise had grown to 700 cows and additional young-stock, and employed 10 people.

For 10 years Harold was a member of the Trawscoed Experimental Dairy Husbandry Farms Advisory Cttee. For many years he was a representative on the Milk Marketing Board’s County Liaison Cttee and was elected to the Milk Marketing Board, representing the south Wales region, serving three years during the period when milk quotas were introduced.

For approximately 20 years he was a director of the Clynderwen Co-op and a founder member of the Narberth Grassland Society.

An active member of the NFU, he served on and chaired numerous cttees and was county chairman in 1976.

Away from farming, Harold was a Justice of the Peace for 21 years until 2003; President of Pembroke Rotary Club in 2002. For 25 years he served as a church warden and held the position of High Sheriff of Dyfed in 2001-2002.
