Animal Care & Handling Conference: New Sessions

US - The Animal Care and Handling Conference organised by the American Meat Institute (AMI) in October will feature new sessions on sustainability and the impact of the media.

The AMI Foundation (AMIF) Animal Care and Handling Conference, the leading animal welfare education opportunity for meat companies, will feature a number of new sessions this year in an effort to satisfy an array of attendee needs. The conference will be held on 19 to 20 October 2011, at the Westin Crown Center in Kansas City, Missouri.

New sessions this year will include:

  • Animal Handling and Sustainability: Environmental Impact of Livestock Production – Jude Capper, PhD, assistant professor, Washington State University
  • Impacts of Animal Well-Being and Welfare Media on Meat Demand – Glynn Tonsor, PhD, assistant professor, Kansas State University
  • Animal Care and Handling: Myth-crushing – Chris Raines, PhD, assistant professor, Pennsylvania State University
  • Creating an Animal Handling Culture – Leonard Huskey, director of animal welfare, JBS USA

Registration fees for those registering by the second of September 2011 are $475 for members or $415 when three or more members register together. After the second of September, registration rates increase to $525 for members or $465 when three or more members register together. Registration is $825 for non-members.
