NFU Conference: Insight Into 2012 Farm Bill

15 March 2011

US - Farmers Union members from across the country learned what to expect from the 2012 Farm Bill from a variety of perspectives during National Farmers Union’s (NFU) 109th annual convention in San Antonio, Texas.

Convention goers heard a speaker panel entitled “Farm Bill: Views and Perspectives on the 112th Congress,” which included farm bill experts from Washington, DC, the Obama administration, and academia.

“The 2012 Farm Bill will almost certainly be the most significant piece of legislation that we deal with in the coming year,” said NFU President Roger Johnson. “That means it is critical for members to make informed choices in setting our top priorities for what needs to be included in the farm bill. This speaker panel informed our members from a variety of perspectives and helped them understand the intricacies of this important piece of legislation.”

The panel was moderated by Jerry Hagstrom of “The Hagstrom Report.” Other speakers on the panel included Dr Craig Jagger, economist for the US House of Representatives Committee on Agriculture; Mr Brandon Willis, deputy administrator for the US Department of Agriculture Farm Service Agency; and Dr. Daryll Ray, director for the University of Tennessee Agricultural Policy Analysis Center.
