CellCheck - New Milk Quality Initiative Launched
IRELAND - A new milk quality initiative called CellCheck is being launched at the Teagasc National Dairy Conferences in Charleville and Mullingar.

This is a new joint initiative involving Animal Health Ireland, Teagasc, DAFF, Veterinary Ireland, UCD and ICBF, along with industry partners in the co-ops. It involves a campaign to maintain and improve milk quality on farms as the industry enters an expansionary phase.
This new initiative is a partnership between farmers, vets, advisers, dairy technicians, co-op personnel and all those who have a role to play in ensuring high quality milk is produced which in turn will increase the profitability of both the dairy milk processors and Irish farmers.
Teagasc Director Professor Gerry Boyle said: "Teagasc is committed to this new initiative CellCheck, with one of our researchers, Finola McCoy dedicated to this project, while Tom Kelly and the Teagasc Dairy Business and Technology advisers around the country will assist milk producers in tackling the issue on their farms and make this initiative a success."
Mike Magan, chairman of AHI said: "I am very excited by this new Initiative that brings together all service providers and stakeholders in this collaborative approach in tackling a very important issue for both farmers and industry. AHI are delighted that Teagasc have released Finola McCoy to be Programme Manager of this project."
Speaking at the conference Finola McCoy from Teagasc said: “This collaborative programme will provide sustainable solutions to mastitis control, and improve milk quality by reducing SCC to agreed standards.” The campaign kicks off by increasing awareness of the issues and solutions and building on the experiences gained in Ireland and internationally in tackling this issue.
