Funding To Improve Understanding Of CAP

EU - The European Commission has launched a call for proposal for information measures related to the Common Agricultural Policy.

The grants are mainly targeting farmers' or rural development organisations, consumer associations, environmental protection associations, public authorities of the Member States, the media, universities, think tanks, who wish to carry out communication actions related to the Common Agricultural Policy.

The budget for projects under this call for proposals is €3,250,000. The size of the grant asked must be between €20,000 and €300,000. The Commission will finance up to 50 per cent of the cost of a project.

Special priority would be given to projects that:

(1) Explain and debate the Common Agricultural Policy with the general public, in particular the young urban population;

(2) promote the role and usefulness of a strong, sustainable and balanced Common Agricultural Policy together with a socio-economic dynamism in rural areas;

(3) discuss the need to maintain production capacity in order to ensure food security;

(4) focus on the need for farmers to respond to new challenges, relating mainly to climate change, the preservation of the countryside and biodiversity;

(5) discuss rural areas on direct aid, markets and rural development policy with agricultural stakeholders, the rest of the food supply chain and the population in;

(6) create debate about the Common Agricultural Policy concerning the quality of agricultural products.
