Himachal Milk Production to Boom

INDIA - Himachal Pradesh is expected to see milk production flourish in the next three years thanks to the Dhoodh ganga project funded by the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD).

The project aims to transform micro-enterprises engaged in diary farming into successful businesses and it is expected to help up to 50,000 rural households through 10,000 self help groups, according to a report on sify Finance.

Milk production in the state is expected to rise to 35,000,000 litres a year.

The project has granted Rs 361,900,000 over the last year with half of it as interest free loans.

Each self help group was provided with Rs 300,000 to set up a 10 animal dairy unit. Loans were also given for equipment and machinery for the dairy units.

The scheme also included education sessions and training on animal management, breeding quality and animal health, the report says.
