UK - The nation’s milkmen have doubled the range of products available on the round in response to growing on-line demand.

A survey of milkmen shows that the number of products, other than milk, including groceries, bin bags, pet food and garden products, has grown from 115 last in 208 to 243.9 in 2010.

Fuelling this expanding product range is Britain’s first online service helping people to locate milkmen across the country. A fresh wave of 20,000 customers have visited the “Find me a Milkman” website (www.findmeamilkman.net) since its relaunch in February.

Taking average click-through rates and order volumes, it is estimated that the additional business generated by the site will amount to more than £13 million in the first year.

Trade body Dairy UK’s Edmund Proffitt said: “These days, consumers expect to be able to shop for groceries online, and there’s no reason that the doorstep milk sector should be different.

“Findmeamilkman.net has proved extremely popular since its inception and the latest upsurge in visitors, coupled with the huge growth in products available, confirms that people throughout Britain really value the doorstep service from their milkman.”

Findmeamilkman.net now offers a much more accurate geographical search facility, capable of calculating what services are available within a given radius of your home. For the first time it can provide information about the products milkmen sell and allows users to order and pay online.
