The original aim was to implement the DairyCo Mastitis Control Plan on 750 herds over the three years that the project is running. However, half of that number has been implemented in the first year.

There are now 168 vets and consultants across the country trained to implement the plan, with another 60 registering interest in future courses.

DairyCo product manager, Kate Cross, is delighted with the results: "It is great to see the mastitis control plan being put into action on so many farms so quickly," she says.

"We are now also in the process of requesting and receiving follow-up data from herds where the plan has been in place for 12 months. This will allow us to measure the success of the plan in its existing format and method of delivery."

Producers are encouraged to enquire about the DairyCo Mastitis Control Plan through their veterinary practice, or find the location of their local plan deliverer on the DairyCo Mastitis Control Plan website www.mastitiscontrolplan.co.uk.
