Glanbia Deal Unsuccessful

IRELAND - Commenting on this afternoon’s unsuccessful vote in favour of the buy-out by the Co-op of Glanbia Plc’s Irish businesses, Irish Farmers' Association (IFA) President John Bryan said it was disappointing that the deal did not go through at this point.

He said: “While 73 per cent decided in favour, the 75 per cent bar was extremely challenging in any democratic process. The results of the vote demonstrated clearly that the vast majority of farmers wanted to take back control of their business.”

The IFA President said that, now that the proposal had been voted on, it was important to get on with the day-to-day business. “The existing plc structure is well managed, and their farmer suppliers will look to the Board and Management to secure the best possible milk and grain prices going forward.”
