US And Canadian Cattle Numbers Fall

US - The US and Canadian cattle inventory has fallen according to data released by the National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS), Agricultural Statistics Board, US Department of Agriculture.

All cattle and calves in the US and Canada combined totaled 106.7 million head on 1 January 2010, down one per cent from the 107.7 million on 1 January 2009. All cows and heifers that have calved, at 45.9 million head, were down two per cent from a year ago.

All cattle and calves in the United States as of 1 January  2010, totaled 93.7 million head, one per cent below the 94.5 million on 1 January 2009. All cows and heifers that have calved, at 40.5 million head, were down one per cent from a year ago.

All cattle and calves in Canada as of 1 January 2010, totaled 13.0 million head, down one per cent from the 13.2 million on 1 January 2009. All cows and heifers that have calved, at 5.45 million, were down three per cent from a year ago.
