NFU Deputy President Meurig Raymond said: “Landlord investment remains as important as ever, with issues such as slurry storage being a major concern to tenants in NVZs.

“Landlords and tenants need to approach their rent review with a long-term view. Investment is needed to provide tenants with the opportunity to maintain and increase profitability and plan for the future of their businesses.”

The recent NFU National Tenant Farmers’ conference focused on the future of tenant farming businesses and the often complex and difficult issue of succession, which needs long term planning.

“The NFU National Tenant Farmers’ conference was a great success”, said Mr Raymond. “It highlighted key issues including the need for long-term investment and succession planning. During the conference, and in response to NFU calls, Lord Davies also announced that the Tenancy Reform Industry Group (TRIG) will be reconvened to look at barriers to investment in agricultural property, which is part of a review of the fiscal elements from the TRIG report in 2003.”
