Dairy Closed after Further Melamine Discovery

CHINA - Authorities in Shanghai have closed the Shanghai Panda Dairy Co Ltd after they discovered milk powder and condensed milk containing melamine.

Three of the executives at the company have now been arrested.

The melamine was found in a batch of high-calcium milk powder targeted at middle-aged and elderly people by the Shanghai Bureau of Quality and Technical Supervision during a regular inspection, according to a report in the Shanghai Daily.

An immediate investigation was launched by the bureau following the discovery and the tainted products have been taken away and destroyed.

Panda's corporate representative, general manager and deputy general manager were all arrested and the sister company, Ningxia Panda Dairy Co Ltd has also come under investigation.
