Addressing a meeting of the officials on the drought relief measures, the Minister said that animals play an amazing role in life and by all means they deserved a better deal.

He said he was a farmer before being any thing and as a “farmer I believe more in fostering kindness, respect empathy for the animals- whether it be cattle or dogs. Animals were the best friends of human beings. We must show more kindness to towards the livestock at this critical juncture.”

According to The Hindu, the Minister said Khammam district had experienced worst-ever drought in the past 50 years.

“Despite the difficult times, my family had been taking care of all milch animals very well. They are protected from the heat and mosquitoes. Every pair of the buffaloes had been provided with a fan.”

“My family owed part of the income to our dairy. We supply nearly 200 litres of milk to the milk centre in the village Patalingala. And the drought had little impact on our milk production,” said the Minister. Khammam was one district where in the best Ongole breed bulls could still be found.

It owed to the special obsession some farmers had for the breed. A cluster of villages on Madhira – Nandigama road was known for breeding of Opngole bulls, he said.

He wanted the officials to pay special attention to cattle fodder. Complaints pertaining to fodder be attended promptly.

He wanted the officials help the farmers to raise crops that could support the fodder supplies in the event of a continued drought.

He also extended his invitation to district Collector V. Usha Rani to visit his village to know how his livestock was different.
