The group has been established in response to calls from the farming industry for it to have a greater say in the development of animal health policy, something which the government has long been committed to.

Announcing the new advisory group at the Royal Show in Stoneleigh today, Food and Farming Minister Jim Fitzpatrick said:

“It is vital that Defra and the farming industry work together to ensure that industry knowledge and experience is at the heart of disease control and eradication. This advisory group will give a voice to industry at the earliest stages so that the new independent body for animal health is properly focused on funding and managing disease control measures.”

The advisory group will be chaired by Rosemary Radcliffe.
