NCBA Convention: Merial Updates Calf Preconditioning Programme

Merial said that under the warranty, the company will help a buyer and consulting veterinarian in diagnosis and appropriate antibiotic therapy for cattle that develop bovine respiratory disease (BRD) during the first 21 days after purchase.

Calves certified under the programme must not be commingled with calves that have not been certified. Cattle certified under the programme that have been backgrounded or grazed for a prolonged time also must be revaccinated with a modified live virus BRD vaccine when they arrive at a feedyard. Merial said its veterinary services team will help the cattle purchaser and consulting veterinarian diagnose and treat BRD as needed.

The company said its Surehealth program consists of comprehensive health protocols including parasite control with an Ivomec (ivermectin) brand product, two rounds of vaccinations, a Pasteurella vaccination with Respishield HM, a 45-day weaning period, and other best management practices.
