The Deputy Director of Veterinary Services, Dr Letlhogile Modisa, said in an interview that the stamping exercise started at Kuke area on November 2, adding that 1 500 cattle from Newlook farm and two neighbouring farms were expected to be killed to contain the disease.

Dr Modisa said the government would also upgrade the current 1.4m high double cordon fence separating Ngamiland and Ghanzi districts to a 2.4m high game proof fence.

He said the foot and mouth disease was highly contagious. Therefore, the area of the affected three farms had been declared a red zone.
