Open Day for Dairy and Beef Farmers at Vasse
AUSTRALIA - Dairy and beef producers have the opportunity to identify how they can improve the profitability of their business at the Department of Agriculture and Food annual Vasse Research Centre Open Day this month.The open day, being held on 18 September, will focus on what drives profitability in pasture-based systems, fertiliser use and soil management.
Department dairy team leader John Lucey said with the ever increasing input costs, dairy and beef producers must maximise milk or beef production from high quality pasture.
“One of the key speakers at this year’s open day will be David Beca from Red Sky Agriculture who will discuss what drives profitability in a pasture-based system, based on a review of 300 dairy farms throughout Australia,” he said.
Mr Lucey said department researchers would also present current Greener Pastures research results on nitrogen and phosphorus use and environmental issues.
“They will talk about harvesting more pasture from each kilogram of applied nitrogen, strategies to stay ahead of high phosphorus prices, the management of nutrients for profitability and the environment.”
“One of the farmers involved with Greener Pastures, Grant Evans will highlight his experience of commercially applying the Greener Pastures research results to his farm business.
“The open day will conclude with the Western Dairy AGM, and a presentation on soil health opportunities for the WA dairy industry.”
