"All we import is distributed in Iraq. It is an enormous market"

On Friday, Shqwara met with representatives of company Aboissa, which trades vegetable oils and animal fats, and of Serlac Trading, specialized in dairy products. According to the director, the company already imports milk and oil from Europe, but is after more competitive prices. "The quality is the same. Now I need to know the price," said Shqwara, who leaves the country today.

Middle Furat, which also imports black tea and other vegetable oils, works directly with Iraq. "All we import is distributed in Iraq. It is an enormous market," said Shqwara. According to him, in the early 1980s the company imported around US$ 35 million in food each year, and now the sector has more than doubled.

In powdered milk alone, the Jordanian trading company imports 2,500 tonnes a month. In the case of sunflower oil, the total is around 25 containers a month. "We are open to importing much more," said Shqwara. According to him, the company's idea is also to expand sales to Sudan and Libya. "These are future plans for the company, as the Iraqi market is very large and we cannot supply other markets for the time being," he said.

Before arriving in Brazil, Shqwara visited Argentina, also to study the prices of foods. Both organisations said they would send price estimates to the director of the Jordanian company. "We are ready to do trade with Brazil," he said.
