Lactiber, new dairy enterprise in Cantabria to build plant in Renedo de Piélagos

SPAIN - Lactiber, a new dairy enterprise based in Cantabria in the north of Spain and created 50%-50% from the base companies, the Iparlat and Covap co-operatives, are to construct a dairy products plant in the Cantabrian town of Renedo de Piélagos (La Pasiega industrial estate) – a plant for the production of sterilised milk and milk in cartons. Building will start in 2008 and is to be operative in 2010, the first phase anticipating a capacity of 200 million litres of milk per year. The new plant will have 40,000 square metres of buildings within a total surface area of 80,000 m2, and will be equipped with state-of-the-art technological innovations which will enable consumption of water to be reduced by half, energy efficiency to be improved and emissions of contaminant fluids minimised.

This new plant will replace the one Iparlat has currently in operation in nearby Andía Lácteos, keeping the enterprise within the municipality and all the employees on staff.

Lactiber was created from the two dairy co-operative base companies, Iparlat and Covap, and brings together some 2,200 cattle farmers and 600 workers.

Covap, a co-operative based in the Pedroches valley, integrates various sectors (dairy, beef, goat products, lamb and “Iberico” hams) that operate over the extensive geographical area of Cordoba, Badajoz and Ciudad Real.
