I have recently taken on a contract with my local dairy to buy all of their bull calves. How's the best way to go about this? We've raised the first 25 on cows. This is proving to be very expensive compared to what holstein calves are bringing on the market. Is there someone out there doing this and could offer some advice for the most profitable way. We've consisered bottle raising everything but aren't real sure if that will be any cheaper.

Hi Brandon,
Probably the cheapest way to go is by using milk-replacer and a multi-teat unit with plenty of good quality hay or other forage ad-lib until fully weaned and then find what the cheapest forage/protein supplement is in your area and ration accordingly. Good luck ! Jon |
