Mad cow starts an export stampede

AUSTRALIA - The outlook for the Australian beef industry is strong despite persistent drought and a rising dollar, according to the mid-year cattle update from Meat and Livestock Australia. MLA chief analyst Peter Weeks said beef and cattle prices were close to the 2001 records, with 2004 production up, feedlots close to capacity for export, and beef exports high.
