Packers Say No Effect from Mad Cow20 May 2009
US - Two US cattle and meat packer groups say the confirmation of another case of bovine spongiform encephalopathy, commonly known as mad-cow disease, in Canada late Friday will not affect the safety of US beef, but a third group disagrees and wants the government to take more action.
The National Cattlemen's Beef Association's position on the latest BSE case is that "while this is unfortunate news," it "does not expect this case to affect the beef trade status between the United States and Canada or other countries," said Meghan Pusey, an NCBA spokeswoman, in an e-mail.
