Print This Page UK beef export ban lifted by EU
UK - A worldwide ban on British beef exports has been lifted by the EU - 10 years after it was introduced to prevent the spread of mad cow disease. The trade was worth £675m a year to British farmers, but live exports had also sparked animal rights protests. The EU vets' committee unanimously adopted a resolution to lift the ban as the UK has taken necessary measures to prevent the spread of the disease.
