UK - Farmers across Wales came under fire this week from Welsh Assembly Rural Affairs Minister, Elin Jones, for failing to treat the threats from bluetongue seriously.Speaking in the Senedd on Tuesday, she said that while in South East Wales some 85 per cent of the 1 million doses of vaccine made available in the area since June 27 had been administered, uptake in the rest of Wales had been “disappointingly” low.
“Since becoming available from September 1 in the remainder of Wales – and despite an intensive communications campaign by the Government, farming unions and other stakeholders – as at September 15 only 1.36 million of the 7.5 million doses had been taken up by farmers in Wales and that includes the vaccine used in South East Wales,” she said.
